Fifteen years ago, #JK released his solo-debut MAN ENOUGH TO BE A WOMAN on Eden Records Ltd. (now a division of Warner Music Group).
The title, derived from the Jayne County biography, serves as a vehicle for the music on the album.
As Jayne is described Queen Of Shock ‘n’ Roll, Koning became the courting King to that title.
With a slightly rough Southern States accent–despised by his record label, however–he surely serves as a King to Jayne’s Queen.
Though the lyrical topics of the songs couldn’t be more remote from Jayne County, musically Koning took his new solo steps in a world County opened up for every freak on the planet–including Jean Koning.
Koning shied away from his usual musing around with The Velvet Underground and went straight to a more Glam Punk attitude, embracing a number of synthesizers and demanding every guest musician on the album–even legendary Manu Katche and Pino Palladino–to approach his instrument merely as a percussion instrument.
There’s a lot of beating on this album. A very staccato attitude that developed even further in the studios during recording, and opened up a brand new musical world to explore.
MAN ENOUGH TO BE A WOMAN (the 15th anniversary re-release) is now once again available on vinyl, CD and, digitally, through Bandcamp–#JK’s preferred medium of download and stream.
#JK teamed up with Elastic Stage in London to manufacture and distribute the vinyl and cd’s (directly from the United Kingdom) and Bandcamp and Soundcloud for digital distribution.
