CELEBRATORY 23 | American Girl

Introducing American Girl. Covers albums are usually a chance for a singer to let their hair down a little, a creative break while they wait for new ideas to come along. Trust Jean Koning to do it differently. The concept behind LINGO: LIFE LEGEND LOST is that all the songs were written by musicians who we've lost between January 2016 and December 2017, all the songs were written during some political or social turmoil, all songs are considered classics, however have very little connection with the current teenagers, wandering aimlessly the planet, facing doubt, racism, and a false sense of connection. All these songs are now reinterpreted by one of the most original musicians around. With that in our conscious minds, compilation albums are also a step back. In order to investigate where the artist has been and to figure out how they got from A to B, artistically, in the first place. With BEINONI , the upcoming compilation album, being released April 22nd, #JK revisits the songs of

CELEBRATORY 23 | SexyBack

Returning to SexyBack. While recording Wake Up In L.A., #JK and his studio band took some time off from the original material for #WUILA, and had some fun in the studio, interpreting songs by others.  They kept the tapes rolling, though. The rough recordings were edited in some respect, keeping alive the atmosphere and mood of the day. #JK aimed for some of the recordings to become B-sides for the 10” Vinyl program, which was launched for promotional efforts concerning #WUILA. However, none of those ideas were realised. The recorded covers found a way to two #MINIATURES albums, which were released for VIP-fans. One of the #MINIATURES albums was used as the soundtrack for a theatrical play in Amsterdam. The second one was a sought after collectors item on CD.  Three years after the release of MINIATURES 2: AN AMERICAN TALE, one of the covers was picked up by College Radio in the U.S. of A, and became the second big cover–following the success of WHEN DOVES CRY.  That song, SEXYBACK, ori

CELEBRATORY 23 | Glorious Love (due to popular demand...) again...

Due to popular demand–let me tell you: 5000+ Bandcamp users cannot be wrong; in other words; don’t trust the commercial demographics–now also available on the commercials–which was never the point of this CELEBRATORY 23 campaign. Originally remixed–as if that’s a thing–for Rakuten for their Japan fashion week shows… However, they preferred for their shows–which is relatable–the other remix version of the song. Now, refreshed in the ‘23 master–which is the base for this celebratory revisits–the song is now available everywhere… on every device… everywhere where there’s wifi available, when a download option is not anywhere around… Cheers… >>>reference landing page (where to stream or buy)

CELEBRATORY 23 | Lingo: Life Legend Lost

Lingo: Life Legend Lost (2023 anniversary master) by Jean Koning Lingo: Life, Legend, Lost is the sixth studio solo album by Sinner Songwriter Jean Koning. It was released on 9 October 2018 by Out Of Office Records. It was produced by Jean Koning and recorded in studios in London, Utrecht, and Zaandijk from April to June 2018. BACKGROUND: A few years ago, Jean Koning had a heart to heart with the director of a play he was then acting in. "That devil looked me in the eye," he recalls, "and basically said: your emotion is your strength, as it is in your music. But you will never be Sondheim. Your main source of creation is your pain. And then it seems you delve into other people’s pain to portray the most honest human-being possible." The conversation wasn’t about compliments, character or motivation. The director was being viciously fair about the person sitting in front of him." Jean has been reflecting on that moment of honesty ever since, he says…
