BOX'd | "And In Conclusion, Your Honor!" (I learned the truth at age 50... Some stuff is meant for beauty queens...)

The 50th birthday is, apparently, not an ordinary birthday…

Or so I’m told… It is a potent milestone of life and is worthy of reflection, celebration, gratitude, and even a bit of humor.

Fifty years of existence are full of their tales, learnings, triumphs, heartaches, joviality, and maturities.

Fifty is wisdom gained by experience, strength gained by struggle, self-development through change, and confidence gained by self-awareness. The age is when most of us start to get rid of the tension of external demands and fully enjoy the authenticity.

When you are 50, you do not need approval so much, you just need peace. You give up on the pursuit of perfection and begin to value progress.

The age of 50 is also a reminder that it is not something to be afraid of aging but a thing to celebrate. Each crevice holds an episode. Each gray hair is some lesson. Surviving every year is an indicator of strength. Fifty is not the age but the age of being more yourself.

At 50 you have lived decades of love, loss, success, disappointment, friendship, reinvention and transformation. Probably, you encountered situations where patience and strength were required. You have achieved milestones which you used to be only in dreams. You are now informed of what really is and, maybe, even more, what is not.

Most people say at 50, they feel empowered but not intimidated. It is a silent kind of belief that you gain when you are old enough to understand that storms are just temporary, failures can educate, and even ordinary things can make you very happy. You start to appreciate conversations about something important instead of small talks, close friendships instead of mobs, meaning instead of the stress.

This attitude was aptly described by the author George Eliot who wrote: "You should not wait and be what you could have been."

The given quote perfectly reflects the spirit of making fifty. It reminds us that 50 is not a goal, but a continuation. Adolescents do not run out of dreams. There is no age limit of reinvention.

Fifty in a lot of ways can become the start of the most real chapter ever.

Advancing fifty is also a good thing to provide a vision. You know that likening robs pleasure. You know that time is of the essence. You enjoy family, friendship and experience more.

The hurry to prove oneself is usually forgotten and the urge to just live good and love is in place.

To others 50 is the beginning of new things, new jobs, new interests, new destinations, new aspirations. To some others, it is a time of gratitude, introspection and appreciation of what has already been established.

It is not a birthday to add another candle to the cake when one gets 50.

It is regarding celebrating half-a-century of becoming.

Author Maya Angelou once told: "We marvel at the beauty of the butterfly, but seldom acknowledge alterations it has undergone to attain the beauty."

A fiftieth birthday is precisely such a gorgeous thing as decades of change.

50? Officially vintage!

With that in our conscious mind, and, in conclusion, Your Honor, 50, as vintage as it may be and become, it is a time of giving.

So to leave you, and your fleeting thoughts, with this wonderful William Shakespeare kind of wisdom: “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away”. And my kind of giving comes in the shape of songs.

So, after many years of “borrowing” stories from the people who surround (or have surrounded) me, I am giving them back to the world…
